Keeping things simple – One for All - The new HMP series power supply
Hameg Instruments introduces its new HMP series power supply in the 200 and 400 watts class
Keeping things simple – One for All
Launching the new HMP series, Hameg introduces three programmable high-performance power supplies, featuring two or three output channels that cover ranges of 0 to 32 volts and up to 10 amps. They provide many new functionalities, a high set and read back resolution, the EasyArb feature and excellent noise/ripple values (150µV) – even under full load conditions.
The market for power supplies is heavily fragmented. Countless different models, each with its own special strengths, are available – finally ending up in a fleet of power supplies lying around in a laboratory or test facility, being rarely used. The new HMP series puts things right: Depending on power requirements and budget, up to three electrically insulated – and thus combinable – channels are available to cover nearly all applications in practice.
The HMP2030 has two identical channels with a voltage range of 0 to 32V. Due to the intelligent power management, 5 amps can be drawn at 16 volts and 2.5 amps are delivered at the full rated output voltage of 32 volts. The third channel delivers 0 to 5.5V at 5A. The HMP2020 can likewise provide an output power of 188W. But be-sides the 5.5V channel there is also one more 32V channel doubling its maximum current to 10 amps. The HMP4030 provides three identical 32V channels with up to 10A each, thus featuring an output power of 384 watts.
Protection and versatility
The new HMP series is based on the classical transformer principle, utilising a high efficiency electronic pre-regulator and a secondary linear voltage regulator. This de-sign concept stands for high output power, a compact sized housing and high effi-ciency, combined with smallest residual ripple. Due to their electrically insulated, earth free, overload and short circuit proof outputs, they can be operated in series or in parallel to deliver high voltage or high current output. A basic prerequisite is the use of separate electronic fuses, which can be logically combined (FuseLink) to shut down linked channels in case of a fault condition, according to the user’s setup (e.g. ch1 follows ch2 and ch3 follows ch1 or ch2). Special emphasis has been put on a comfortable and practice oriented tracking function. If necessary, the corresponding channels are selected prior to a voltage or current change and altered in common.
The high resolution for set and read back values down to 1 mV / 0.1 mA makes HMP an ideal solution for demanding applications like semiconductor verification. What’s more, applying the EasyArb function, users can form arbitrary voltage/current shapes to each channel, mastering a minimum timing step down to 10 ms.
A high-contrast LCD display ensures clear presentation of all parameters and the illumination of the push buttons provides for excellent operability. A compact unit size and the availability of all outputs (including sense terminals) on the rear side facilitate the integration into 19” rack mount systems. The HMP series is equipped with an USB/RS-232 dual interface. Optionally, an Ethernet/USB or GPIB (IEEE-488) inter-face is available. The HMP series is already available at a list price starting from EUR 959. Please find more details at http://www.hameg.com/HMP2020.
