Example for using the extended math of the HMO series (ID #540)

Analysis of the electrical energy.

The HMO series offers five sets of formulas, each of them can accept up to five equations. This allows to enter the most important mathematical analysis into these five sets of formulas so that they can be called quickly without the need to enter them each time anew. In this example the energy function shall be displayed. The voltage across the load is being measured with an active difference amplifier probe and applied to channel 2. The current is being measured with a current probe and applied to channel 1.

First, the coefficient of the current probe (100 mV/A) is to be entered; the formula set 1 is called and the equation MA1 defined. After pushing the soft menu key EDIT, the appropriate functions can be selected using the SELECT button and the universal knob. Here, the channel 1 is being multiplied with a constant (0.1), and the unit A (Ampere) added. This ensures the correct display of the scale factors as well as of the units for cursors and automatic measurements. The equation MA1 is given the name "CURRENT using the soft menu key LABEL.

Subsequently, a new equation will be entered and adjusted so that the result of the calculation of the equation "CURRENT" and channel 2 will be multiplied which will yield the power curve. At last, another equation will be added to the set of formulas which will be defined as the integral of the equation "POWER".

Fig. 2: Definition of the energy equation

Now, all definitions will be complete, and the results can be displayed and are available for further analysis. The analysis can be performed with either the cursor or the automatic measurement functions, all measurement results will be correctly scaled and will show the correct units: Ampere, Watt, Joule.

As you can see from this example, with the extended math functions of the HMO series and the ability to do math on math, you can do complex data analysis easily and fast.
